Liability Insurance Advice to MLTE Candidates and Award Holders
Training/Assessment Courses
Registration with the MLTE does not include any insurance cover. It is the responsibility of the Course Provider to ensure that adequate liability insurance is in place for the duration of the training/assessment course.
Providers will not normally provide cancellation insurance, personal accident insurance or cover for candidate’s own personal equipment. Please check this with your Course Provider and if necessary you may wish to arrange appropriate cover.
Consolidation Period
It is the responsibility of candidates who are gaining experience during the consolidation period (either through paid employment or as a volunteer) to check that they are covered by an appropriate policy. An employer or voluntary organisation will often provide this insurance cover.
NOTE:
Candidates who are current members of the BMC, the MCS or the MCI have personal civil liability insurance cover as part of their membership. This insurance will cover candidates whilst gaining relevant experience and working with groups between training and assessment. This does not include candidates trading under a company name.
Award Holders
Holders of MLTE Awards have a responsibility to ensure that when working they have adequate professional liability cover through their employer, operating authority or as a self-employed person.
NOTE:
Award holders who are current members of the BMC, the MC of S or the MC of I have personal civil liability insurance cover when operating under the remit of their award providing that all party members are also members of a Mountaineering Council.
