Mountain Leader Training England

Mountain Leader Training England (MLTE), formerly the Mountain Leader Training Board, was set up in 1964 to develop training and assessment courses in mountaineering.  That work has developed to the stage where MLTE now administers the Summer Mountain Leader, the Walking Group Leader and the Single Pitch Awards.

MLTE registers candidates, approves Course Providers and ensures the quality and relevance of training and assessment courses run on its behalf.  We are also involved in the development of training materials and resources and as an advisory body in the field of mountain-based outdoor activities.  We share a central database which contains the details and progress of all candidates throughout the UK.

MLTE staff are primarily based in its office in North Wales alongside the National Mountain Training Centre at Plas y Brenin and work closely with colleagues in the other home nation Training Boards and the BMC.

This web site is designed to provide all the information required to aid progress through the Award schemes and answer many of the common questions regarding them.  Staff are always available to answer more specific queries.
